Panmessinian Federation of USA & Canada

Date Posted: 16/7/2022

With deep sorrow and a heavy heart, the Panmessinian Federation of USA and Canada sends its condolences to the family of our compatriot Anastasios (Tasos) Dimopoulos, beloved, distinguished and talented president of our Federation. Our president passed away on July 12, 2022 in Toronto, Canada at the age of 82.

Our beloved president was born in Gargaliani, Messinia and deeply loved his place of origin. As a result of his deep love for Messinia during the many years that he was the president of the Pan-Messinian Federation of USA and Canada (2003-2007 and from 2019 to now), he participated as a founding member in the creation and organization of our summer school from 2005 and organized a number of donations to Messinian organizations such as the Kalamata and Kyparissia hospital (including during the recent pandemic), the statue of Papaflessas in Maniaki in 2003 as well as donations to our compatriots with health problems.

As a businessman and as a person, our beloved president helped many Messinians and Greeks in their personal and professional lives. Always with a sense of humor, love and a great vision for the future he overcame obstacles and continued forward with strength. All the members (of the board) of our Federation have a deep respect and love for our president who honored us so many times with his love, shared with us his vision for our Federation helping us every step of the way with his advice. As Messinians, we feel proud of our compatriot and president Tasos Dimopoulos.

Tasos loved his family deeply. He always referred to his wife Angeliki Dimopoulos, his sons Konstantinos and Eleftherios Dimopoulos and his grandchildren Kiki, Kian, Tasso and Timothy with love, respect and admiration. Tasos' brothers and sisters Chrysa, Katerina and Dimitrios were also dearly loved by him. Our Federation expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Tasos Dimopoulos for their loss.

Tribute of the Panmessinian Federation of USA and Canada

for the 200 years since the revolution of 1821

The Panmessinian Federation of USA and Canada honors our glorious ancestors who gave us freedom and made us proud of our rich heritage. The liberation of Kalamata, the Battle of Maniaki and the Naval Battle of Navarino mark the beginning of the revolution that inspired the struggles of nations around the world. As Messinians we are proud of this triptych that started from Messinia and lit the flame of revolution throughout Greece.
